About Dolpo Society

Dolpo can trace its history as far as 2000 years back and in view of promoting and protecting its age old religion and tradition, “Dolpo Society” was conceptualized and instituted by Nyima Lama Rinpoche in 1997. Dolpo is home of some of the highest villages on earth and because of its high altitude (3,500 meters and above), and ruggedness it remain in obscurity and isolated till recently thus depriving itself of all the modern amenities and basic services that people take for granted these days. Even today, in Dolpo literacy rate is negligible, medical facilities, postal service, electricity and security are nonexistent.
